Game Theory: Lectures for Economists and Systems Scientists

This book, translated following a recommendation from leading game
theorists in the United States, is based on lectures given by the author to
economics students at the University of Leningrad. Formal mathe-
matical prerequisites are only elementary linear algebra and analysis;
the book provides the student with a relatively simple introductory text
which contains the basic mathematical machinery utilized in the theory
of games. Practical examples, many of them from economics, serve
mainly as an interpretation of the mathematical foundations of the
theory rather than as an indication of its actual or potential applicability.
This modern text fills a gap in the existing textbook literature on game
theory.
An appendix to the translation of the Russian original contains a col-
lection of selected problems and a bibliography both of which were
prepared by the translator.
