The Logical Foundations of Mathematics
William S. HatcherThe present volume offers a study of the foundations of mathematics stressing comparisons between and critical analyses of the major nonconstructive foundational systems. Constructivism is discussed, however, and it is treated sufficiently to give the reader an accurate idea of the position of constructivism within the spectrum of foundational philosophies.
The focus of the work is on the modern systems of foundations developed during the last 100 years, but some attempt is made to give historical perspective to these developments. Our treatment of type theory, especially, makes a serious attempt to present a technically correct system as close to the original as possible.
