The Way to Shambala

Outside of Tibet and Mongolia, the Tibetan myth of Shambhala
has received relatively little attention-certainly much less than it
deserves. The idea of a mysterious kingdom hidden behind distant
snow mountains has an intrinsic appeal that ought to make
it of widespread interest. I have therefore written The Way to
Shambhala for a general audience with no particular background
in Tibet or Tibetan mythology and religion. The book itseH
presupposes no knowledge of these areas and avoids the use
of technical terms that would make it difficult to follow. At the
same time, it contains material that has not been published elsewhere
and should be of interest to specialists in a number of
fields.
The material in this book comes from a variety of oral and
written sources. I first heard about Shambhala in 1g6g from the
Incarnate Lama of Tengboche, abbot of a Tibetan Buddhist
monastery near Mount Everest.
