A woman's debt

Richard Croxton, the confidential secretary of Rupert Morrice, is accused of stealing a packet of French notes, a bag of loose diamonds, and a parcel of private papers from a safe in Morrice's house. Despite Croxton's protests of innocence, Morrice believes him to be guilty and dismisses him from his position. Rosabelle, Morrice's niece and Croxton's lover, supports him and vows to stand by him. Morrice plans to replace the stolen items and keep the incident a secret, while Rosabelle defies her uncle's wishes and continues to support Croxton.
